Ring Launches Video Doorbell Wired

Ring Launches Video Doorbell Wired, the Cheapest and Smallest from the Company Yet

Technology

Doorbells and accessories from Amazon Ring have become one of the buzzwords of smart home systems in the past decade. However, they have always been priced expensively, making the doorbells accessible only to affluent demographics. In an attempt to change this scenario, Ring has launched its Video Doorbell Wired, which is the cheapest and smallest video doorbell from the smart home company owned by Amazon. It has been priced at just $59.99 and packs everything a user needs to smarten their doorbell. Ring says it will start shipping the product in late February.

As the name says, the Ring Doorbell Wired needs an active power supply to function. This isn’t the case with the premium battery-powered doorbells like the Ring Doorbell 3 or the Ring Video Doorbell. However, when you go for this wired alternative, you save more than a couple of dollars. It is worth noting that the Doorbell Wired packs all the features found in a Ring package. For instance, you get 1080p video support, night vision, integration with other Ring products, customizable controls for AI-based motion detection, and the feature to pair the device with the Ring Protect subscription.

It’s just that installing the Video Doorbell Wired may take some more time. Because it’s a wired product, you will have to find a source to provide 10-24 VAC or 40VA without trouble. Once the power has been set up, a user can connect the doorbell to their Wi-Fi network, and everything else functions like clockwork. On the bright side, this is also the smallest doorbell from Amazon Ring yet. Even the smallest houses in the country won’t have trouble attaching this doorbell. The next time someone rings the doorbell, a smartphone alert will notify the user. As is the case with other products from Ring, the Doorbell Wired also supports two-way interactions and automation with products like Ring Lights and the Ring Alarm.

Another slight problem with the new product is that it cannot be used along with the current chime system that a customer may have. Instead, Amazon expects customers to purchase an outlet-powered chime system. It’s available as a package that costs $80 in total. For someone who has not purchased a chime system in the first place, even this isn’t a limitation. Therefore, for those who have a small space but want to protect it in the smartest way possible, the Ring Video Doorbell Wired is the perfect solution.

Considering that you can hook up the Wired Doorbell with Amazon Echo products, the product looks like a fantastic investment on any day. Amazon seems to have chosen a strategy that expects people to give up a rechargeable battery for the sake of around $40 savings. Of course, the company expects this device to boost the popularity of smart doorbells across the market. Nevertheless, it needs to be seen how many are ready for this little inconvenience.

Amazon has already listed the Ring Video Doorbell Wired for preorder, with the dispatch date set to the 24th of February.
